CTF participation terms

Last updated 2026-10-08

These terms apply to anyone who registers on ctf.cyrange.eu or takes part in a CTF run by CyRange. Individual events may publish additional rules, which apply to that event. [TODO(Dan): have the final wording reviewed by counsel]

1. Eligibility and accounts

  • Minimum age: [TODO(Dan): minimum age and rule for minors, e.g. parental consent].
  • One account per person. Give accurate information and keep your password to yourself.
  • Team rules (size, membership changes) are published for each event.

2. Fair play

  • Do not share flags, hints or solutions with other teams while an event is running, and do not collude between teams.
  • Do not automate flag guessing or exceed the submission limits shown by the platform.
  • Do not use more than one account to gain an advantage.

3. What you may and may not attack

You may attack only the challenge targets that are explicitly provided for a challenge, and only in the way the challenge intends. You must not attack the CTF platform itself, other participants, the infrastructure around it, or any system not listed as a challenge target; doing so may be unlawful. Do not run denial-of-service attacks or consume resources beyond what a challenge needs. If you find a weakness in the platform, report it under our disclosure policy instead of exploiting it.

4. Prizes

[TODO(Dan): prize rules, eligibility, taxes and how winners are verified, per event]

5. Enforcement

We may warn, disqualify, remove accounts or block access when these terms are breached or to protect the platform and other participants. Activity on the platform is logged (see Privacy), and we may pass information to the authorities where unlawful activity is suspected.

6. Content and write-ups

Challenges are provided for education. [TODO(Dan): whether participants may publish write-ups and when, e.g. after the event ends]

7. Availability and liability

The platform is provided as is, and events may be changed, paused or cancelled. [TODO(Dan): liability clause and governing law/jurisdiction, from counsel]

8. Changes

We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version.
